The Departmental Safety Advisory Group (DSAG, formerly the Departmental Safety Committee) meets once per term during the academic year. The Group comprises a Chair and two Vice-Chairs to ensure representation from Linus Pauling Science Center, Gilbert Hall, and Gilbert Addition. In addition to faculty members (including one from OSU-Cascades), there is also a graduate student member and representatives from OSU's Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S). The DSAG is strictly an advisory entity and does not conduct inspections, enforce compliance, etc.; rather, the mission of the DSAG is to provide the Department with important laboratory safety updates, reminders, and best practices, as enunciated in the DSAG Memorandum, which is provided to all Departmental personnel once per term during the academic year. Approval by the DSAG is also required for all Departmental outreach events in which chemistry activities are planned (such as chemical demonstrations or hands-on activities for participants).
