Chemistry department gets life-saving training

By Michael Burand

Mike Bamberger gives hands-on CPR training to Jacob Hirschi and Artiom Skripka.

During the winter 2026 term, the Department of Chemistry coordinated with OSU Emergency Preparedness to offer CPR training for any interested departmental faculty, graduate students, or staff. A total of 17 people completed the course and earned their American Heart Association CPR/AED/first aid certification. This required both completion of the online portion of the course as well as participation in the hands-on training sessions, which were offered on two different dates. All costs were covered by the Department of Chemistry.

This was the first time this training has been offered by the Department of Chemistry, and it is one of the latest examples of the department's ongoing commitment to safety and emergency preparedness. Special thanks to Professor Wei Kong who approved of funding this project, as well as Mike Bamberger and Brandon Christensen who coordinated and administered the hands-on training sessions. Special thanks also to those members of the department who volunteered their time and efforts to complete this potentially lifesaving training.
